Edoardo Miroglio Winery’s Brut Special Edition 2005 Awarded the Grand Trophy
on the International Balkan Wine Competition 2015
For the first time in its history, the Edoardo Miroglio Winery wins a grand Trophy for its Brut Special Edition 2005 wine. The winery shared the high distinction with the Serbian winery Mitalj’s Kremen Kamen Cabernet Sauvignon 2012. Miroglio Winery boasts four more golden medals – for its Elenovo Chardonnay 2013, Elenovo Mavrud 2011, and the naturally sparkling Brut Rose 2009, and Brut 2008. “I am exceptionally happy about the high distinction we have earned. The fact that it is our first prize on the fourth Balkan Wine Competition is very exciting. I hope that this intriguing wine format will keep developing and gain more supporters and participants”, said Mr. Miroglio during the award ceremony Gala dinner.
Over 150 wineries, along with the wines from the exhibition, participated in the fourth edition of the Balkan International Wine Competition 2015 (28th and 29th of May). In order to be eligible, wineries had to be from the Balkan Peninsula, Central and Eastern Europe, the Black Sea region, and other nearby areas. This year the wines were evaluated by 13 world-renowned wine specialists. Julia Harding MW, “right hand” of Jansis Robinson MW, joined the jury for the first time ever. A record number of visitors attended this year’s festival, which was held on the 30th and 31st of May in the garden of Grand hotel Sofia. Lovers of Dionysus’ drink tasted over 600 wines, produced by 60 Balkan wineries. Several Bulgarian wineries also chose the Balkan Wine Festival for their big stage debut.
